The board is responsible for providing and executing policies concerning the operation of the county, enacting local ordinances, and appointing citizens to various boards and advisory commissions. The board is also responsible for adopting the annual budget which includes establishing the tax rate.
The Board of Commissioners are responsible for overseeing the county’s management and administration, representing county interests at the state and federal level, participating in long-range planning, and managing the county budget and finances. The Board meets every 1st Monday at 9am and 3rd Monday at 6:30pm .
The Clerk to the Board is officially responsible for the County seal and the retention of official records. These include minutes, ordinance books, records of county-appointed boards and committees, resolutions, contracts, agreements, and leases. The clerk is responsible for the legal advertisements and must be familiar with the General Statutes in order to assure the validity of actions taken by the Board of Commissioners.
