Learn More About Caswell’s Zoning Options

The Caswell County Board of Commissioners recently approved a 12-month moratorium on polluting industries and, with the Planning Department, have begun investigating what zoning options might be considered to guide future development in the county.

Zoning, a common land use planning tool, has significant implications for public health and equity. Zoning determines where various categories of land use may go, influencing the location of the resulting environmental and health impacts. This is why it is important for all members of a community to participate in zoning discussions and decisions.

A number of community meetings have been scheduled across the county to give residents an opportunity to learn more about the options being considered and for the public to provide feedback. You can find a PowerPoint presentation of potential zoning options HERE (originally presented to the Board of Commissioners on January 16.) These zoning options were developed in alignment with the land use map developed as part of Caswell’s 2014 Comprehensive Plan. It should be noted that permissible land uses for each zoning district would be determined by documents known as “use tables” which would be developed as part of any zoning plan and with public input.
